  1. The DVD is just okay. After viewing it the first time, I realized how important it is to train and practice in person.

  2. Don’t hesitate – you will not regret. Different angles and a very good performance by Master Ren. You get Lao Jia Yi Lu in mutliple angles + the straight sword in multiple angles + both forms presented through sequenced photo sets.

I don’t understand why there is no such video with GM Chen Xaiowang but you will learn a lot from Master Ren Guang Yi.

Personally I found Mr Reed’s introduction and voice-overs unnecessary but they do not get in the way.

Ren’s performance is meticulous and the the dvd is produced fully professionally so you don’t have to look elswhere.

Bear in mind that master Ren lived in the Chen village for 10 years and was trained by GM Chen Xiaowang.

  3. Tono says:

Chen is a fluid yet explosive old temple style of Tai Chi. Well-filmed from several angles, with options of fast and slow ambient original music written and performed by Master Ren GuangYi’s student Lou Reed. Also several hundred black and white stills to further demonstrate stance and posture. Very thorough, fascinating exploration of this power form.

  4. I am very impressed with this DVD; the filming quality is first rate but the most important thing is this Master is a true Master. His moves are impeccable and mesmerizing to watch. The flipper vision is great for learning; all instructional DVD’s should have this, it makes learning much easier. If you are interested in learning Chen style; both empty hand and straight sword, this is the DVD to get. I bought it from Amazon rather than YMAA because I have had problems with shipping from YMAA.

  5. To watch this video is also for the novice in the field an experience! Master Ren produces Chen Taijiquan in an almost robotic-human way, with the moves precise but with the softness of the typical dichotomy. A must for anyone to see!
